2018 IHRA Nationals Comp 2 Meeting

Well the IHRA Nationals Comp 2 Meeting concluded this weekend. This was the first event of the season for us due to the courier man taking longer than expected to deliver parts for the drag Evo, so we missed the opening round of the season.

We attended Saturdays Test and Tune day eager to get some much needed seat time, to test the changes we made to the car and get some valuable data logging to continue tuning the car.

We were very surprised when we ran a personal best of 8.8 @ 158mph straight off the trailer. The pass felt good, the car felt good and the tune looked good so we called it a day until the event kicked off on Sunday.

Sunday was bitter sweet for us. Our first qualifying pass was 9.2 @ 160mph, the car bogged off the line but we did manage a new personal best in MPH.

By the time we got back to the pits, we only had time to top up with fuel and pack the parachute before we were being called back out to race (so much for 45min between rounds), so we are unable to look at the data from the run or make any changes.

Our second pass was a good one, the car got off the line well and ran straight the whole way. We set a new PB in E.T and MPH running 8.7@162mph! Unfortunately it felt like the car may have broken a diff in the process, so we made the decision to call it a day and not risk any more damage.

We only managed 3 runs the entire weekend, but 2 out of the 3 were 8 second passes and PB's, so we'll take it.

It feels good going into the holiday break to have that 8 second monkey off our back.

A big thank you goes out to Tune Technic, MSE Turbo's, Turbosmart, Jason Horn, BNR Engineering and RSL for their support. Time to set new goals...

Turbosmart Power Port blow off valve

A recent new addition to the Drag Evo is the Turbosmart Power Port blow off valve. Our old aftermarket blow off valve couldn't handle the boost we were trying to run.

The Power Port is Turbosmart’s largest and highest flowing blow-off valve ever, resetting the flow benchmark set by our popular and highly regarded Race Port BOV. Designed to be as light as possible, to keep vehicle weight down. Its cutting edge dual-chamber design means it can be held open with the use of a solenoid to aid turbo response and control during staging to give the best possible launch.

This should do nicely in helping us to run the boost we want :)

Test and Tune success

Today we were invited to a private test and tune day at Meremere dragstrip. There were only a handful of cars invited which gave everybody plenty of seat time and a relaxed easy going atmoshpere which is a good change from the usual rushed and stressful times a race meeting can bring.

We've not run the car since fitting the slightly bigger turbo to the car, so this test day was needed before the next race meeting in 2 weeks.

The first passes were on low boost and we ran 9.4 and 9.5sec. Dave from Tune Technic had a look at the data logging from those passes and was happy for us to run high boost for the next pass.

High boost we ran 9.5sec at 157mph! The mph was another PB, but the E.T hadn't improved. Data logging shows we were only on 60% throttle in 1st gear.

A few changes to the tune and a pep talk with the driver and we were off to try another pass. This time we ran 9.0 @ 158mph! A new PB for E.T and MPH.

The few people at the track were keen to see us make another pass and get that 8 second pass. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. The driver tried a little too hard to make it happen and hit the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear, resulting in another 9.5 sec pass.

After our 5th pass of the day we were tired and worn out and called it quits. We got a lot of data from the day and were happy to set a new PB in both E.T and MPH.

Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars visit NZ

Fram Autolite Dragway played host to the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars from Australia during the latest round of the NZ Comp Series on Saturday 3rd February.
We took the Evo down for a chance to run an 8 second pass. Our first pass off the trailer was on low boost to get a feel for the car and the track. We managed to run 9.4 at 152mph. After looking over the data logging, we were happy with how everything looked, so we switched to high boost and were ready for our next run.
This is the time when the heavens opened and it poured with rain, and unfortunately didn't stop. The event was evenly called off. The good news is the event has been rescheduled for Saturday 10th February. We will be there chasing that elusive 8 second pass.

PB's everywhere

The Wellington Invasion Comp 3 Meeting at Fram Autolite Dragway Meremere today was a good one.
We ran back to back 9.236 second passes and managed to set a PB in 60ft (1.50), E.T (9.236) and mph (154.8).
A huge thanks goes to Dave from Tune Technic for coming along today and data logging each run and making small adjustments to the tune before every pass to get the most out of the car. This makes a huge difference.
Thanks to GRP Performance Automatics for the bulletproof gearbox. The car ran like a dream today.
