This was the first event of the season for us due to the courier man taking longer than expected to deliver parts for the drag Evo, so we missed the opening round of the season.

We attended Saturdays Test and Tune day eager to get some much needed seat time, to test the changes we made to the car and get some valuable data logging to continue tuning the car.

We were very surprised when we ran a personal best of 8.8 @ 158mph straight off the trailer. The pass felt good, the car felt good and the tune looked good so we called it a day until the event kicked off on Sunday.

Sunday was bitter sweet for us. Our first qualifying pass was 9.2 @ 160mph, the car bogged off the line but we did manage a new personal best in MPH.

By the time we got back to the pits, we only had time to top up with fuel and pack the parachute before we were being called back out to race (so much for 45min between rounds), so we are unable to look at the data from the run or make any changes.

Our second pass was a good one, the car got off the line well and ran straight the whole way. We set a new PB in E.T and MPH running 8.7@162mph! Unfortunately it felt like the car may have broken a diff in the process, so we made the decision to call it a day and not risk any more damage.

We only managed 3 runs the entire weekend, but 2 out of the 3 were 8 second passes and PB's, so we'll take it.

It feels good going into the holiday break to have that 8 second monkey off our back.

A big thank you goes out to Tune Technic, MSE Turbo's, Turbosmart, Jason Horn, BNR Engineering and RSL for their support. Time to set new goals...
Our old aftermarket blow off valve couldn't handle the boost we were trying to run.

The Power Port is Turbosmart’s largest and highest flowing blow-off valve ever, resetting the flow benchmark set by our popular and highly regarded Race Port BOV. Designed to be as light as possible, to keep vehicle weight down. Its cutting edge dual-chamber design means it can be held open with the use of a solenoid to aid turbo response and control during staging to give the best possible launch.

This should do nicely in helping us to run the boost we want :)
There were only a handful of cars invited which gave everybody plenty of seat time and a relaxed easy going atmoshpere which is a good change from the usual rushed and stressful times a race meeting can bring.

We've not run the car since fitting the slightly bigger turbo to the car, so this test day was needed before the next race meeting in 2 weeks.

The first passes were on low boost and we ran 9.4 and 9.5sec. Dave from Tune Technic had a look at the data logging from those passes and was happy for us to run high boost for the next pass.

High boost we ran 9.5sec at 157mph! The mph was another PB, but the E.T hadn't improved. Data logging shows we were only on 60% throttle in 1st gear.

A few changes to the tune and a pep talk with the driver and we were off to try another pass. This time we ran 9.0 @ 158mph! A new PB for E.T and MPH.

The few people at the track were keen to see us make another pass and get that 8 second pass. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. The driver tried a little too hard to make it happen and hit the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear, resulting in another 9.5 sec pass.

After our 5th pass of the day we were tired and worn out and called it quits. We got a lot of data from the day and were happy to set a new PB in both E.T and MPH.
Fram Autolite Dragway played host to the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars from Australia during the latest round of the NZ Comp Series on Saturday 3rd February.
We took the Evo down for a chance to run an 8 second pass. Our first pass off the trailer was on low boost to get a feel for the car and the track. We managed to run 9.4 at 152mph. After looking over the data logging, we were happy with how everything looked, so we switched to high boost and were ready for our next run.
This is the time when the heavens opened and it poured with rain, and unfortunately didn't stop. The event was evenly called off. The good news is the event has been rescheduled for Saturday 10th February. We will be there chasing that elusive 8 second pass.
We ran back to back 9.236 second passes and managed to set a PB in 60ft (1.50), E.T (9.236) and mph (154.8).
A huge thanks goes to Dave from Tune Technic for coming along today and data logging each run and making small adjustments to the tune before every pass to get the most out of the car. This makes a huge difference.
Thanks to GRP Performance Automatics for the bulletproof gearbox. The car ran like a dream today.
Long story short we manage to set a PB in mph during the event. We ran 153mph! No PB's for ET unfortunately, but we were having issues getting the car to launch off the line. Good news is we found the cause of the issue, albeit a couple weeks after the event. It's been fixed and car is ready to go. Since that event we were lucky enough to have NZ Performance Car Magazine do an article on the car. Check out the Christmas issue in news stands now.

Last weekend was the first Test and Tune and Competition Meeting for the 2017/2018 Drag Racing Season. Unfortunately bad weather prevented us from doing any testing on Saturdays Test day, which meant we had to do our testing at the Competition Meeting on Sunday.

Our aim for the day was to make sure the car went from A to B with no issues, the new slightly larger slicks wouldn't rub on the guards during a pass, and to iron out any issues we may face during the test sessions before we got into competing for the season ahead.

Long story short, things went well, no major issues to speak of. Just a couple minor, more annoying issues to take care of which we should have sorted by the next event.

At the next meeting we plan to turn the power up and go for gold...
We have been flat out over the last few months, so haven't had much time to post anything on the blog. The new drag racing season is fast approaching so we had BNR Engineering make us a new intake manifold for the Drag Evo. Our old manifold was looking a little worse for wear.

One such drag racer was Jason Horn in his Mitsi Lancer. He ran multiple PB's during the course of the season finishing on a new PB of 8.59sec! The engine ran faultlessly all season meaning Jason could compete at every event. He drove the pants off the car this season and nothing shows that more than this picture.

Hytech Engineshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11631678958955985885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3149397031033398054.post-53144072036191910102016-03-12T17:19:00.004-08:002016-03-13T13:46:25.740-07:00Drag Racing Season Round Up.The last round of the 2016 Nationals didn't quite go as planned this weekend. Our first pass off the trailer was a 9.4 @ 144mph. This was our quickest time for a first pass we have ever had, so things were looking promising. Once we got back to the pits we noticed that something wasn't quite right, large amounts of water coming out of the exhaust and a strong smell of coolant. This is usually a sign of a blown head gasket, so we made the tough decision to call it a day instead of pulling the cylinder head off and putting a new head gasket on it to continue.

We only had 2 goals this season, which were to run a 9second pass and be more reliable. Easy thing to say, but much harder to achieve. Going from a 10 second pass to a 9 second pass is a big jump and much harder than most people realise until they try to do it. We are really pleased that we achieved both those goals, so the drag racing season has been a good one for us. Once we ran our first 9 second pass, we never stopped running 9's. It's just as much a mental thing as it is having the car to do it. Once you have done it and know you can do it, it becomes much easier to do. The 4G63 engine we built has been very reliable for something making over 1000hp at the engine. Getting used to the power and the new setup has been the challenge, however we did improve on our previous best E.T of 10.19 and our highest mph of 144mph. This season we ran a new PB of 9.32 sec and a new mph PB of 150mph. This just goes to show that the changes we made to the car have us heading in the right direction. We already know what we need to do before the season starts again in November 2016, and plans are already underway to go even quicker. The car already makes enough horsepower to run an 8 second pass, and the 150mph trap speed is proof of that. Watch this space #project8s #8orbust #8secondclub.

A couple of our drag racing customers also had success this year. Ian McKay in his 4G63 powered Mazda GTX became a member of the 9 Second club running a 9.8 second pass at the 4&Rotary Nationals and Jason Horn in his 4G63 powered Lancer ran a new PB of 8.68 @ 160mph this year. Sometimes seeing your customers success gives you more satisfaction than achieving your own goals.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the track again next season.
We decided to head down with our tuner to do some data logging to find out why the car wasn't behaving the last time we were racing, which was at the 4&Rotary Nationals in January. Maybe he could identify the issue and help us fix it before racing this weekend.

To cut a long story short we found out what the issue was as soon as we started the car and looked at the tune while the car was idling. The tune was fixed in 5 minutes thanks to his handy work. We gave the car a quick once over and lined up for our first pass of the night.

9.56 second pass for our first run - a new PB! beating our previous best time of 9.74 seconds. We looked at the data logging for that run and it looked ok, so we filled the car up with more gas and lowered the tires pressure a little more and off we went for another pass.

9.32 seconds @ 150mph on the second pass - a new PB again! The only issue on that run was we hit the rev limiter before we crossed the finish line. We increased our rev limit for the next run, but we were no longer allowed to race due to it being to dark to run as we have no headlights.

Its amazing how fast that frustration just washes away the moment you achieve a new PB.

Pretty pleased with how everything went tonight. Fingers crossed this can continue during racing this weekend.

A big thanks goes to Tom, Dave from Tune Technic and Jason from GRP Automatics for their help tonight.
But a big congrats goes out to Jason Horn for running a PB of 8.6 @ 160mph! Now officially the fastest motor we have built to date. And we'll done to Ian McKay for also running a PB of 9.82 in his street car! Good to see some customers having some success on the track today, well done! Below are a couple videos showing both their passes.

Hello 9'sToday we took the Evo to Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere to compete in the latest round of the Drag Racing Nationals. The car isn't 100% finished, but seat time and data logging are important in getting the car the way we want it, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to get out there and do more testing.

We didn't set any high expectations today, we just wanted the car to be reliable and run some consistant 10 second passes. One of the major issues we've been having is getting the car off the line quickly, which is a challenge being a 4WD Auto. Our 60ft times have stayed around the 2 second mark which is really high! Today was no different, our first 2 passes had 2.0 and 2.1 sec 60ft times, both resulting in 10.9 sec passes @ 135mph. We knew if we could get the 60ft times down to around 1.5 seconds, we could bust out a 9 second pass. The car's trap speed's show us that the car has the power and acceleration to do it, we just needed a good start.

On the cars last run of the day we lined up against the Curren Brothers RX2 which had previously run a 6 second pass today, so not wanting to be completely embarrassed we drove the car like we stole it and low and behold we managed to drop the 60ft time to an improved 1.7 seconds, resulting in a 9.74 sec pass at 138mph! The car developed a miss in 3rd gear so that slowed the run down a little bit, but nevertheless we are pleased with the way the car performed and the data we got from it today. We will continue to tidy up some things on the car and make some planed modifications which we haven't got to yet, and hopefully have it done in time for the next scheduled event.
