Hytech Engines sponsored Gaz Whiter was lucky enough to get an invite to participate in the Red Bull Drift Shifters event held in Auckland City today. A huge crowd got to soak up some sunshine and witness a one of a kind event featuring the top drifters from the United States take on the best from NZ. The event was won by Matt Powers followed by Sam Hubinette both from the United States with "Fanga" Dan Woolhouse from NZ coming in third. Here are a few snap shots from the event, but no doubt you will see coverage of this event in various car magazines, blogs and websites in the coming months.

Skylines Downunder Dyno Day 14/07/2012
We went along to the SDU dyno day last weekend to support the club and to put our R32 GTR on the dyno. Our GTR made 513.3kw at 4 wheels on low boost. A miss stopped us from running higher boost. This is an issue we have known about and have a new ECU harness to fix it.

Torque Plate Honing
Torque plate honing a 4G63.
Basically the torque plate simulates the cylinder bore’s distortion when the head is bolted to the block, thus allowing us to hone the cylinders with the simulated distortion. Honing with a torque plate generally gives better ring seal, compression, and can reduce oil consumption. Not necessary on every engine build, only those who are building high horsepower engines and want it done.

4 & Rotary Nationals 2012
We had a number of customer cars at the 2012 4 & Rotary Nationals Show and Shine.
The drag racing at Meremere the following day didn't go as planned for us. The last time we raced at Meremere we managed to snap 3 axels launching off the line. We only had time to change 2 axels before this event, so the first thing we did when we got to the track was replace the remaining broken axel. We then had to fix the launch control which stopped working. Turned out to be a broken wire, which was quickly sorted out. Our first pass was a little unsettling, at 3/4 track the car dived off to one side so we had to back off throttle resulting in a time of 10.9 sec @ 140mph. The second pass was even more unsettling. Just after launching off the line the car dived to the right so we backed off throttle, then got back on full throttle, then again at 3/4 track the car dived off to the right again, so we backed off completely and coasted to the finish line resulting in a time of 11.5 sec @ 102mph. Instead of risking crashing the car into the wall, we decided to call it a day and put the car on the trailer.
