The monkey is off our back. Hello 9's

Today we took the Evo to Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere to compete in the latest round of the Drag Racing Nationals. The car isn't 100% finished, but seat time and data logging are important in getting the car the way we want it, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to get out there and do more testing.

We didn't set any high expectations today, we just wanted the car to be reliable and run some consistant 10 second passes. One of the major issues we've been having is getting the car off the line quickly, which is a challenge being a 4WD Auto. Our 60ft times have stayed around the 2 second  mark which is really high! Today was no different, our first 2 passes had 2.0 and 2.1 sec 60ft times, both resulting in 10.9 sec passes @ 135mph. We knew if we could get the 60ft times down to around 1.5 seconds, we could bust out a 9 second pass. The car's trap speed's show us that the car has the power and acceleration to do it, we just needed a good start.

On the cars last run of the day we lined up against the Curren Brothers RX2 which had previously run a 6 second pass today, so not wanting to be completely embarrassed we drove the car like we stole it and low and behold we managed to drop the 60ft time to an improved 1.7 seconds, resulting in a 9.74 sec pass at 138mph! The car developed a miss in 3rd gear so that slowed the run down a little bit, but nevertheless we are pleased with the way the car performed and the data we got from it today. We will continue to tidy up some things on the car and make some planed modifications which we haven't got to yet, and hopefully have it done in time for the next scheduled event.
